History of Motitech
A result of a successful project by the Agency for Nursing Homes in Bergen
Motiview by Motitech
Motitech was founded in 2013 by Jon Ingar Kjenes as a result of a successful project by the Agency for Nursing Homes in Bergen, Norway. The project aimed to stimulate older people and people with dementia to improve their lives through increased physical activity, focusing on those living in long term care and people with dementia in particular.
They wanted to see whether the increased physical activity would affect the behaviour and psychological symptoms in relation to dementia, and did a 24/7 registration of a large variety of behavioural pattern and physiological symptoms. This included monitoring aggressive behaviour, sleep, appetite, pain, use of medication, anxiety, depression, and other.
The city bought 40 indoor exercise bikes for the residents to use and to obtain the wanted results, motivation was key. Based on the project’s great success, showing increased quality of life and better health, Motitech launched the video & cycling concept under the name Motiview, with the purpose of increasing life quality for as many older people as possible.
Motitech aims to help all ageing people reach their physical potential, by providing an innovative and stimulating outlet that motivates them to exercise.
Road Worlds for Seniors - a unique championship
Since 2017 Motitech has arranged the Road Worlds for Seniors (RWS), an annual cycling championship coinciding with the UCI professional cycling competition. It allows older people and people with dementia to take part in a global sporting event - even though they might live in a long term care facility. The championship makes the cyclists become a part of something bigger; A global movement focusing on physical activity and reminiscence for people that are normally not able to part in such initiatives.
For our cyclists, the Road Worlds for Seniors is all about having that feeling of friendly competition and being part of a community, between residents, care facilities and across national borders. We want to encourage older people to compete, have fun and get active at the same time.
